Mit gro\u00dfer Vorfreude sind wir nach Irland gestartet. Phil und ich haben uns vermutlich beide gleicherma\u00dfen auf diesen roadtrip gefreut. Zu lange war es her, dass wir zu zweit los gezogen sind. Es dauerte nicht lange, bis die ersten Kommentare zu unserem Vorhaben auftauchten, als ich dieses Bild auf facebook postete:<\/p>\n

Phil an me were both looking foward to this roadtrip. Long gone since we both went roadtrippin`. After posting this picture (below) on facebook, it did not take long, till the first comments of some islanders came up. <\/em><\/p>\n

„Hope you brought some rain coats!“ „North and South“ – it came clear what we had to expect.<\/em><\/p>\n

„Hoffentlich habt ihr Regenm\u00e4ntel mit.“ „Und zwar f\u00fcr den Norden und den S\u00fcden“ – uns wurde klar was uns erwartet.<\/p>\n

Nach der Ankunft in Dublin, k\u00fcmmerten wir uns schnell um einen Mietwagen und machten uns gleich noch auf den Weg in Richtung Sligo im Nordwesten der Insel. Unterwegs hielten wir bei einsetzender D\u00e4mmerung am Lough Owel und schlugen dort unser Zelt auf.<\/p>\n

After beeing back on the ground savely, we took our rental car and hit the road straight up in direction of Sligo. As the sun set we stopped at Lough Owel where we pitched\u00a0 our tent.<\/em><\/p>\n

Morgens hatten wir sogar etwas\u00a0 Sonne.<\/p>\n

And we even had sun this morning.<\/em><\/p>\n

Wie das an der K\u00fcste halt so ist (und Irland ist umgeben von K\u00fcste), ist das Wetter verg\u00e4nglich. Also nutzten wir die Gl\u00fccksstr\u00e4hne und machten uns auf die Suche nach Wellen. In Strandhill war aber viel zu viel Wind, also ging es entlang der K\u00fcste in Richtung S\u00fcden. 30 Minuten sp\u00e4ter fanden wir in Aughris Point einen gesch\u00fctzten Spot mit klaren Wellen. Zack, umziehen und ab ins Wasser, lowtight was comin’…<\/p>\n

Weather changes quite fast at the coast. And coastlines is, what ireland has a lot… So we grab the chance of catching some waves in the sun. Starting in windy strandhill we drove down south along the coast, where we found a shelterd spot, called Aughris Point.<\/em><\/p>\n

Gl\u00fccklicherweise konnten wir direkt am Spot und vor dem Pub unser Zelt auf einer Wiese aufstellen. P\u00fcnktlich um 20 Uhr sa\u00dfen wir dann im Pub und schauten uns das Fussballspiel zwischen Deutschland und Italien an. Es dauerte nicht lang, bis man uns als Deutsche erkannte und der Abend nahm seinen Lauf. Um es kurz auf den Punkt zu bringen: Im Armdr\u00fccken haben wir gewonnen, im Trinken verloren. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

That evening we pitched\u00a0 our tent right in front of the pub in Aughris Point and went in to watch the soccer match of germany vs. italy. Didn’t took long till the figured out we are germans. A good and long night in the pub was about to begin. To make it short: we won in arm wrestling and lost in drinking. \ud83d\ude09<\/em><\/p>\n

Am n\u00e4chsten Morgen fuhren wir nur ein paar Kilometer weiter nach Easky. Einer der bekanntesten Pointbreaks in Irland. Und er lief…<\/p>\n

The next morning we stopped at Easky, one of irelands most famous surfspots.<\/em><\/p>\n

Gl\u00fccklich \u00fcber konstante Wellen kamen wir 2 Stunden sp\u00e4ter wieder aus dem Wasser und ahnten nicht, dass dies unser letzter Surftag in Irland gewesen sein sollte. So fuhren wir zufrieden weiter Richtung Achill Head, wo wir unser Zelt ganz vorn aufstellen konnten. Dabei fuhren wir durch den sch\u00f6nen Ballycroy Nationalpark. P\u00fcnktlich zur einsetzenden D\u00e4mmerung gab es Tortellini mit Pesto und Rotwein.<\/p>\n

After 2 hours of beautiful point breaking waves we came out the water and didn’t guess, that this would have been our last surf on ireland this time. So we drove to Achill Head and pitched out tent right down there in the bay and started cooking.<\/em><\/p>\n

Am n\u00e4chsten Morgen regnete es wie aus Eimern bis 13 Uhr. Da wir noch etwas m\u00fcde von den letzten Tagen waren, blieben wir einfach im Zelt und starten ganz langsam in den Tag.<\/p>\n

As it rained the next day till 1pm, we took a slow start into that day.<\/em><\/p>\n

Nach dem Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck fuhren wir dann weiter entlang der K\u00fcste nach S\u00fcden. Schnell merkten wir, dass der Swell wie erwartet deutlich nachgelassen hatte und die Ausrichtung der K\u00fcste mit den vorgelagerten Inseln den Wellen die Energie raubten. Also schauten wir uns die Landschaft eben etwas genauer an, auf dem Weg in den Connemara Nationalpark hielten wir bei der Delphi Lodge um uns \u00fcber das Angeln zu informieren und Phil kaufte R\u00e4ucherlachs deluxe. Wer also mal echt luxuri\u00f6s im Landhausstil verweilen will, und Lust hat 140 \u20ac f\u00fcr eine Tageslizenz zum Fischen auszugeben, go for it. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

Soon we realized that the swell was nearly gone and the coastline with its small off shore islands were real wave killers. So we were exploring the landscape around Connemara national park, went fly fishing and had a random stop in Delphi Lodge.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sightseeing in Galway war der Plan f\u00fcr Mittwoch. Sehr touristisch mit verspielten Ans\u00e4tzen und dem besten Caf\u00e9 so far. Nach 2 Stunden machten wir uns dann auf den Weg an die Cliffs of Moher, wo wir einen kleine Spaziergang entlang den Klippen unternahmen. Am Abend kamen wir dann an Spanish Point an und wurden leider auch hier von den Wellen entt\u00e4uscht. Ein mit Regen beginnender Abend endete fulminant. Pub-Leben, Jamsession mit Iren in einem Wohnwagen und zum Abschluss auf einer irischen Disco. Ach ja, ich glaube alle irischen folksongs lassen sich auf G, C und D spielen \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

On wednesday we visited galway, a very touristic city with some nice places, where we found the best coffee so far. Later we went on to see the cliffs of moher and in the evening we pitched our tent at spanish point. Unluckly again no surf but a lot of rain. So we went into that pub for a pint. And we endet playing guitar with some irish guys in a camper.<\/em><\/p>\n

Donnerstag schien dann endlich wieder die Sonne. Voll motiviert machten wir uns erneut auf die Suche nach Wellen und kamen dabei am Loop Head vorbei. Dort fanden wir viel sch\u00f6nere, wenn auch kleinere Klippen. In Ballybunion starteten wir einen letzten Versuch surfbare Wellen zu finden, entschieden uns dann aber doch f\u00fcr ein Vesper in der Abendsonne, bevor wir nach Dingle fuhren. Dort waren wir mit Cole verabredet.<\/p>\n

We had beautiful sunny weather the next day and gave it another try hunting waves. We did not finde waves but at loop head a smaller version of the cliffs of moher which are much more beautiful. So we decided to have a snack while the sun set and drove to Dingle, where Cole was waiting for us.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Dingle hatten wir wieder eine gro\u00dfartige Zeit und Cole hat mal wieder bewiesen, dass er ein grandioser Gastgeber ist. Ich kann das Grapevine Hostel<\/a> nur empfehlen. Nach dem Pubabend in Dingle machten wir uns nach einem gem\u00fctlichen Fr\u00fchst\u00fcck auf den Weg in Richtung Carrantuohill. Irlands h\u00f6chste Erhebung. Unser Plan war, diesen H\u00fcgel zu erklimmen und so machten wir uns auf den Weg. Phil plante eine Route \u00fcber mehrere kleinere „Gipfel“. Kurz nach Tourstart fing es an zu Regnen und zu st\u00fcrmen. Oben angekommen, war alles Wolkenbehangen und zur\u00fcck am Auto waren wir bis auf die Unterhosen nass. Wir entschieden uns an diesem Abend f\u00fcr Bed & Breakfast in Killorglin.<\/p>\n

We had a great time in Dingle with Cole. Again he showed us what a great host he is and welcomed us with a drink. So if you are around Dingle, give it a try and visit him in the grapevine hostel<\/a>. After this night in Dingle and a nice breakfast we went to hike Carrantuohill, which is irelands highest peak. It took us 5 hours through rain and storm and we arrived at the car totally wet, for this view:<\/em><\/p>\n

Am Samstag fuhren wir dann quer \u00fcber die Insel nach Dublin und spazierten durch die Stadt. Nach dem Abendessen fuhren wir raus aus der Stadt und bauten unser Zelt an der K\u00fcste, nahe dem Flughafen auf. Sonntagmorgen ging es dann zur\u00fcck nach Stuttgart.<\/p>\n

On saturday we drove to Dublin and had a short walk through the city. In the evening we pitched our tent the last time at coast north of Dublin. The next day, we took the plane back to Stuttgart.<\/p>\n
